PINELLAS PARK – Detectives with the Pinellas Park Police Department arrested 73-year-old Gary Mygdal on September 4, 2025, following an investigation into online communications with a person he believed to be an 11-year-old girl.
According to investigators, Mygdal engaged in sexually explicit conversations and arranged to meet the child. He was taken into custody at 13200 49th Street N after arriving at the agreed location, where he believed was her residence, to engage in sexual activity.
Mygdal, a former Pinellas Park Police Officer who served from 1974 to 1984, was charged with Traveling to Meet a Minor for Sexual Activity, a second-degree felony. At the time of his arrest, he was serving on two City of Pinellas Park boards.
City officials confirmed that the City Manager has suspended Mygdal from all board participation. A recommendation for his removal will be presented to the City Council at its next regularly scheduled meeting.
Mygdal is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
Chief Adam Geissenberger stated: “This case underscores our commitment to protecting children from predators. The facts are disturbing, and I want the community to know our officers and detectives will continue to pursue anyone who tries to exploit minors. No one is above the law, and we will hold offenders accountable regardless of their past positions or affiliations.”
