The Pinellas Park Police Department (PPPD) is on the scene of a shooting involving a husband and wife.
The shooting occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the 6300 Block of 58th Street N.
At this time, PPPD confirmed that the woman was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The shooter, identified as 65-year-old Evangelos Mitkaros of 6301 58th Street N, Unit 404, was detained while detectives were on scene and completing a homicide investigation.
When officers arrived at the residence, Mitrakos was detained after admitting to shooting his wife, Leonora Vata.
Throughout the investigation, detectives learned the shooting was the result of an argument between the married couple. According to arrest information, Vata squirted water from a water bottle onto Mitrakos’ shirt. She commented to him to kill himself. He reportedly said, “I got something better to do.” He retrieved a gun from the bedroom and shot her until all the bullets were out of the Ruger 380 semi-automatic handgun. He stated that he typically has six bullets in the firearm.
He exited the residence and told a neighbor that he shot and killed his wife.
Mitkaros was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Murder.
