Pinellas Park Police investigate a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist.
The crash, between a motorcycle and an SUV, occurred on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at approximately 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of 49th Street N and 86th Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene, Pinellas Park Fire Department personnel were transporting the operator of the motorcycle, 38 year-old Matthew Wade of Georgia, to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Matthew Wade died due to the crash while at the hospital.
Investigators determined Matthew Wade was operating a Suzuki motorcycle in the southbound lanes of 49th Street, approaching the intersection of 86th Avenue. At the same time, the 53 year-old male driver of the SUV was making a left turn from 86th Ave to travel north on 49th St N. The traffic control signal was green for the SUV, allowing the driver to complete his left turn. However, Matthew Wade failed to stop for the red light and the two motor vehicles collided within the intersection.
Investigators say that alcohol and speed are factors that Matthew Wade contributed to the crash. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges are expected to be filed.
