Pinellas Park Police Investigating Traffic Death on 70th Avenue North

PINELLAS PARK — The Pinellas Park Police Department is investigating a traffic death that occurred Thursday evening on 70th Avenue North.

According to police, officers responded to the 3800 block of 70th Avenue North at approximately 7:40 p.m. on March 5, 2026.

Investigators said Bryon Tavenner, 66, was attempting to cross north in the marked crosswalk at 70th Avenue. The pedestrian cross signal was not activated at the time.

A gold Lexus SUV traveling west on 70th Avenue, driven by Maria Nguyen, 55, struck Tavenner in the roadway.

Tavenner was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash. Nguyen was issued a traffic citation following the investigation, and authorities said no criminal charges are anticipated.

The investigation remains ongoing.
