Police Say Woman Killed After Her Scooter Was Struck by Red Light Runner in St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate a crash that killed 58 year-old Vallis Ann Oswain. The crash occurred at approximately 2:22 a.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2018.
According to police, a 2015 motor scooter, being driven by Oswain and occupied by a rear passenger, 30 year-old Daniel Jay Foreman, was northbound on 8th Street North and approaching a green light at the intersection of 5th Avenue North.
A 2012 Volkswagon Jetta, being driven by 30 year-old Harshit Srivastava was westbound on 5th Avenue North, approaching a red light at the intersection of 8th Street North.
Srivastava ran the red light and drove into the path of Oswain according to investigators. The front of the scooter struck the driver’s side of Srivastava’s vehicle, throwing both Oswain and Foreman to the roadway.
Oswain was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was pronounced dead.
The condition of Foreman was not released by St. Petersburg Police.
Impairment was not a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
