A teenager was seriously injured in a crash at approximately 11:22 a.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a pedestrian who was struck by the PSTA Trolley on 1st Ave S. near 7th Street.
The teenage girl was transported to the hospital with what police are calling life-threatening injuries.
A PSTA Trolley was eastbound on 1st Avenue South, operated by 54-year-old Chrishawn
Rodgers of Tampa.
A 15-year-old girl, Tammy Burch from Gulfport, had just exited the SunRunner bus. The girl crossed the road and was struck by the trolley. She was transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with critical injuries.
The driver of the trolley, Chrishawn Rodgers, was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital with minor injuries. Two passengers on the trolley were also transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation. 1st Avenue S. between Dr. MLK St. and 5th St. was closed to traffic for several hours for the investigation.
Chrishawn Rodgers the driver of the PSTA Trolley was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury. In addition to the criminal charge, she received the following citations:
-Red Light Violation
-Failure to Change Address
-Providing False Information in a Crash
-Speeding too Fast for Intersection
The young girl, Tammy Burch is still recovering from the crash.
