Obdulio Chacon, aged 46, is in police custody following an incident involving an assault on a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) driver.
The event occurred in downtown St. Petersburg while the driver was on a break near the St. Pete Pier entrance, just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19.
As the male PSTA driver prepared to resume his route by boarding his trolley, an unidentified man, later identified as Chacon, physically attacked him.
The driver, whose name is presently being withheld, sustained injuries to his head, but fortunately, they were not life-threatening. Immediate medical attention was provided as he was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg as a trauma alert.
Law enforcement detectives gathered substantial evidence pointing to Chacon as the primary suspect in this case. The Largo Police Department lent their assistance in the apprehension process.
Chacon was subsequently interrogated by St. Petersburg police detectives and later transported to the Pinellas County Jail. He now faces a charge of aggravated battery in connection with the incident.
Chacon is listed as a transient in the area.
