Road Rage Incident Leaves Motorcyclist Shot in Tarpon Springs

The Tarpon Springs Police Department is currently investigating a road rage incident that culminated in a shooting at the intersection of E. Klosterman Rd. and S. Disston Avenue. 

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Police say the incident reportedly involved 15-20 motorcyclists and a black 2011 Mercedes Benz S-class sedan. The 9 year-old son of the driver was a passenger in the vehicle. 

Prior to the shooting, the motorcycles and Mercedes Benz were traveling southbound on US Highway 19 N. from the area of Beckett Way. 

The shooting resulted in a 17 year old motorcyclist sustaining a gunshot wound to his right bicep.  The injured motorcyclist transported himself to the Medical Center of Trinity following the shooting where he received treatment for his gunshot wound. 

The motorcyclist was discharged from the hospital on Sunday morning.

The incident was immediatly reported via 911 to the Tarpon Springs Police Department by the driver of the Mercedes Benz sedan who indicated he had discharged his firearm at a motorcyclist in self-defense. He states that the motorcyclists repeatedly struck and damaged his then impeded his ability to leave the area.

All motorcyclist left the area prior to police arrival. The shooting is being actively investigated by the Tarpon Springs Police Department and no arrests have been made at this point.
