Deadly Crash Closes Westbound Lanes of Courtney Campbell Overnight
Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a crash with serious injuries on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:13 a.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018.
Police say that the driver, 26 year-old Scott Anthony Wolf of Estero was heading east — the wrong way — on the access road on the north side of the causeway when the vehicle went out of control and flipped into the water.
Wolf was driving a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he died. The investigation into the
crash continues.
Wolf was pulled from the water by a Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy who arrived on scene.
He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Clearwater Police reported at approximately 11 a.m. that the driver died of his injuries.
Crews searched the water to make sure there that no one else was in the car.
As of 6 a.m., one westbound lane reopened. Both lanes reopened as of 9 a.m.
