Clearwater Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting the occurred inside a home in the 1600 block of Flagler Drive at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
Clearwater police responded to the home after receiving a report of a subject shot by the occupant of the home. Police were able to safely evacuate one woman from inside the residence. Officers, behind ballistic shields, were able to enter the home and make contact the injured male.
26 year-old Justin Wright died at the scene and a homicide investigation is underway.
The caller reported she awoke to find an intruder in her bedroom. The man began attacking her and she was able to grab a gun and shoot him in self-defense.
He lived in the neighborhood at 1637 Flagler Drive and previously made unwelcome contact with another resident of the home.
The woman’s name will not be released per Marsy’s Law.
