At approximately 1:16 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024, law enforcement responded to a shooting incident at 1711 Azalea Court in Oldsmar. Deputies arrived on the scene and learned that a male suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Kemani Wright of St. Petersburg, was firing a gun both outside and inside the residence. Wright managed to steal the homeowner’s 2004 Lexus before fleeing the area.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Wright had sent threatening text messages to the homeowner, warning that her child was going to end up dead. Shortly afterward, he was dropped off near the residence, presumably by a rideshare service. Without hesitation, Wright opened fire on two male victims in the front yard.
The victims sought refuge inside the house, but Wright pursued them into the home. He kicked down a bedroom door and fired additional rounds into the bathroom where the victims were hiding. Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident.
On March 15, 2024, authorities apprehended Wright in Marion County. The US Marshal Service Task Force took him into custody, and he is now booked in the Marion County Jail. He is facing charges of two counts of attempted murder, armed burglary, shooting into a occupied dwelling and grand theft auto.
The investigation remains ongoing.
