Detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are currently engaged in an ongoing investigation following a shooting incident involving a teenager at a residence in the 3700 block of Cheltenham Drive. The event occurred on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, shortly before 4 p.m.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers immediately commenced efforts to locate another 15-year-old teenager who had fled the premises following the discharge of the firearm. Fortunately, nearby deputies were able to apprehend him a short distance away.
The 15-year-old victim, who sustained a significant gunshot wound in the facial area, was expeditiously airlifted to Tampa General Hospital’s trauma center. While the injury is deemed severe, preliminary reports indicate that it is not believed to be life-threatening. The medical professionals are currently providing appropriate care and treatment to the child.
As the investigation into this unfortunate incident continues, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is working to gather more information and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Detectives say at this point in the investigation, the shooting appears to be accidental.
