Officers from the Belleair Police Department are investigating a shooting incident that struck an occupied residence on Pelican Place, after a 911 call initially reported a possible burglary in progress.
According to investigators, a resident called 911 stating someone had broken into the home through a rear glass porch door. Deputies arrived in under one minute but did not locate any suspect in the immediate area. Units from the sheriff’s K-9 team and aviation section responded to assist with the search.
Upon examining the rear of the home, deputies determined the damage was caused by gunfire rather than forced entry. A bullet struck the upper portion of the glass porch door and penetrated into the residence. The round traveled into a bedroom, struck a picture frame, ricocheted into a mirror on the opposite wall, and then deflected back onto the enclosed patio.
Investigators identified two additional impacts outside the home. One projectile struck below an exterior window but did not penetrate the wall. Another hit a brick retaining wall near an air conditioning unit along the fence line and did not breach the structure.
Three bullet holes were also located in a rear fence separating the property from the Pinellas Trail. Detectives noted the trajectory of the rounds indicated a downward angle, suggesting the shots were not fired directly from the trail itself.
A K-9 search and thermal imaging were conducted in the surrounding area, including along the trail, but no shell casings or suspects were located. A neighborhood canvas did not identify additional victims or evidence.
A second resident in the area reported hearing two gunshots originating from the east side of the trail around the same time.
The investigation remains active.
