Shooting Death Investigation Underway After Vehicle Crash on Emerson Avenue South in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG – Police are investigating a shooting that killed a man on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m., a vehicle crashed into a parked car at Robco Transmission & Auto, located at 3101 Emerson Avenue South. Responders discovered that the driver, a 21-year-old Tyrone Howard, sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital for treatment.

An 18-month-old girl inside the vehicle was not visibly injured but was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for evaluation.

In an update to the incident, the St. Petersburg Police Department announced that Howard died from his injuries. The case is now considered a homicide.

Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police report it is still early in the investigation, and no additional details are available.
