St. Petersburg Man Critically Injured in Suspected Alcohol Related Crash
Travis Mobley Jr., age 22 of St. Petersburg, was critically injured in a single vehicle crash at 29th Avenue South and 37th Street South in St. Petersburg. The crash occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017.
According to police, Mobley Jr. was traveling in a 2004 Ford Expedition southbound on 37th Street South. For an unknown reason, Mobley drove into the northbound lane of 37th Street South. Mobley attempted to get back into the southbound lane, but appeared to have over-corrected.
The Ford lost traction with the roadway and began to slide out of control and it left the west side of the roadway. The front of the Ford struck a utility pole, sending the vehicle sliding clockwise across 29th Avenue South. The Ford then slid over the south curb of 29th Avenue South and the left side of the vehicle impacted a large tree at the driver’s door before coming to rest.
Mobley was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries.
There were no other occupants in Mobely’s vehicle and no other vehicles involved in the
crash.
Duke Energy responded to the incident to make repairs to the utility pole.
According to investigators, alcohol impairment was a factor and the investigation is ongoing.
