St. Petersburg Man Killed in Gandy Boulevard Crash, Driver Arrested for DUI

ST. PETERSBURG – A 43-year-old St. Petersburg man died early Saturday morning following a crash on Gandy Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at approximately 3:05 a.m. A Chevy Silverado, driven by 36-year-old Robert Chase Self of Conroe, Texas, was traveling eastbound on Gandy Boulevard. At the intersection of 4th Street North, the pickup overtook and collided with an electric cycle operated by the St. Petersburg man, who was also traveling eastbound.

The cyclist was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers reported that Self was arrested at the scene for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). He refused to provide a breath test.
