St. Petersburg Pedestrian Death Late Friday Evening
December 6, 2014
At approximately 9:40 PM on Friday, December 5, 2014, emergency units from St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, Sunstar Paramedics, and St. Petersburg Police Department were dispatched to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian. The crash was reported on 30th Avenue North and Lown Street.
Arriving units found a male pedestrian down in the roadway in serious condition and was declared a trauma alert. The emergency department at the local trauma center in Pinellas County, Bayfront Health-St. Pete, was on divert status due to unknown reasons. Based on this closure and the patient’s condition, a request was made for an air transport to another local trauma center. Due to the man’s quickly deteriorating condition, he no longer met criteria for an air transport and was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital, the closest hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
St. Petersburg Police state that a woman driving a 2002 GMC SUV was traveling westbound on 30th Avenue N striking the man who was crossing the roadway. It appears that the nearest crosswalk was two blocks away at 28th Street.
Anybody that witnessed the crash are being asked to contact the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780.
