St. Petersburg Police investigate a fatality crash on 66th Street

St. Petersburg Police are currently investigating a crash that left both the driver and passenger dead.

The crash occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

Officers responded to the crash in the 500 block of 66th Street North. A silver Lexus sedan was the only vehicle involved.

The driver of the vehicle, 58 year-old Claudette Powell, died of her injuries and her passenger, an 85 year-old woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say that Powell was traveling northbound on Pasadena Avenue and attempted to merge onto northbound 66th Street. She lost control of the vehicle, hit a guardrail, crossed the median and eventually struck a tree flipping the car near 5th Avenue North.

On Wednesday, October 28, 2020, the St. Petersburg Police reported that the passenger, 85 year-old Marianna Schlegel, died from her injuries.
