Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at approximately 5:39 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023.
The incident occurred at the apartment complex located at 11901 4th Street North.

Upon arrival, officers located 32-year-old Derrick D. Mims lying on the pavement with upper body trauma.
He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died from his injuries.

No suspect is in custody at this time, and the investigation continues.
Detectives believe this was an isolated situation and still an ongoing investigation.
Preliminary reports indicate the suspect(s) fled from the scene in a vehicle. Very few additional details are available at this time.
