St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run crash that occurred at approximately 12:18 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2019.

The crash claimed the life of 26 year-old Phelexis Robinson of St. Petersburg.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an Infinity sedan, stolen out of Hillsborough County, was southbound at a high rate of speed, when it hit Ms. Robinson on MLK Street near 34th Avenue South. She died at the scene.

Robinson had been driving an older Lincoln when it apparently broke down on MLK St. S. Investigators believe she had gotten out of the car and was in the roadway nearby, when the Infiniti hit her.

The Infiniti was abandoned on MLK St. South at 37th Avenue South.

On July 26th, St. Petersburg Police announced an arrest on the case.

Tavirus Walters, age 21, was arrested today for 3rd degree murder and leaving the scene of a crash involving death, carrying a concealed firearm, and for other warrants.
