Deputy involved shooting on 119th Ave in Unincorporated Largo
Anthony Gonzalez, age 26, was shot by two Pinellas County Sheriff Deputies about 8:30 pm this evening. Deputies were in the area investigating a report of a man in a black SUV threatening people with a AR-15 type rifle.
Deputies spotted the vehicle and Mr. Gonzalez exited the vehicle who then pointed the rifle at the two deputies. Both deputies opened fire with both a 45 cal and a automatic rifle striking the suspect multiple times. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center via Sunstar where he is currently undergoing surgery.
It is reported that Mr. Gonzalez’s mother was driving the SUV when deputies pulled it over. She was uninjured during the incident.
Both deputies will be placed on routine administrative leave during the investigation.
