Detectives assigned to the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force are investigating an officer-involved shooting in St. Petersburg.
On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, St. Petersburg Police Department undercover detectives were conducting surveillance on 22-year-old Tyron Davis of St. Petersburg, who has a lengthy criminal history and was suspected of committing two armed robberies that occurred in St. Petersburg on August 26 and August 28, 2023.
According to detectives, the undercover detectives lost contact with Davis. Undercover detectives were then notified of a just occurred armed robbery at the Mobil Station located at 825 49th Street North in St. Petersburg, where the suspect matched the description of Davis. In each robbery, the suspect possessed two firearms.
Detectives state the undercover detectives relocated Davis at 1534 27th Street South and attempted to stop the vehicle he was in. While the vehicle fled from undercover detectives, Davis leaned out of the passenger window from the waist up and fired multiple rounds at the undercover detectives. The female driving the vehicle was identified and taken into custody.
An undercover detective returned fire at Davis while Davis continued to fire while the vehicle fled. Davis fled to the area of 10th Avenue South and 12th Street, where the vehicle eventually crashed, and Davis was taken into custody.
Bullet holes were present in the detective’s vehicle.
Undercover detectives and Davis were uninjured.
During the course of the investigation, detectives located several items in Davis’s bag, including, black gloves, a photograph of Davis, a black mask, $1278.00 in various denominations, two firearms and ammunition.
Davis was charged with three counts of Robbery with a Firearm, four counts of Delinquent in Possession of a Firearm, two counts of Carrying a Concealed Firearm, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Shooting a Deadly Missile into an Occupied Vehicle, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Davis was released from incarceration by the Florida Department of Corrections on April 1, 2022.
On Wednesday, September 13rd, 25-year-old Nagee Hester was charged with one count of Robbery with a Deadly Weapon (Principal) in connection to the St. Petersburg Police officer involved shooting that occurred on August 30, 2023.
Detectives advised that during an interview, Hester admitted to driving the vehicle after Davis committed the robbery at the Mobil Gas Station.
Detectives state Hester also admitted to driving the vehicle while Davis shot at undercover detectives.
According to detectives, several photos were located on Hester’s phone of her with the firearms that were recovered after the robbery of the Mobil Gas Station.
Hester was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
