Police say murder suspect cleaned up the bloody scene at a Largo apartment before calling police

Officers from the Largo Police Department (LPD) were dispatched to the Somerset Apartment Complex in response to a 911 call regarding an alleged suicidal person. Officers arrived at 12800 Vonn Road in Largo at approximately 12:38 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023, where they located a female victim.

The 911 caller, 38-year-old Christopher Myers, indicated that he arrived home and located his girlfriend deceased from numerous “self-inflicted” stab wounds.

While detectives viewed the injuries of the deceased, it was evident that the injuries suffered by the victim were not self-inflicted and there had been a violent altercation that occurred between the victim and Myers.

According to arrest documentation, the body of the victim was located in the apartment’s bedroom. She suffered from a gaping laceration to the left side of her neck and multiple stab wounds to her face upper back and chest. There were also ligature marks across the front of the victim’s neck, with severe bruising to her face consistent with being battered.

Myers stated that the knife used in the murder was in his possession twenty-four hours a day and seven days per week. The murder is believed to have occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. Following the murder, investigators say that he took the knife used to stab the victim and washed it in the sink. He then took a shower to wash the blood off his skin and hair at the residence. At approximately 9:30 a.m., he left the apartment for approximately 3 hours. He placed a call to 911 upon his return and notified law enforcement who responded to the scene. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim’s body was described as cold to the touch.

Documentation shows that Myers tore off the tops of his fingernails while handcuffed in the rear of the Largo Police Department vehicle. The officer collected the clippings as part of the case evidence.

Myers was booked into the Pinellas County Jail at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, and now faces the following charges.

  • Murder in the first degree
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Fugitive from Georgia with violation of Parole
