TAMPA – Tampa Police are investigating a shooting that occurred near E 5th Avenue and N 22nd Street.
Officers responded to the area after receiving a report of a shot fired. They found an adult male with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and later died.
Preliminary information indicates the incident began as a roadway dispute. The shooter, an adult male, told officers he acted in self-defense and is cooperating with the investigation. Police recovered the firearm.
Authorities report no ongoing threat to the public. Road closures remain in place on N 22nd Street between E 4th Avenue and E 5th Avenue, and on E 5th Avenue between N 21st Street and N 22nd Street.

Tampa: This from the Tampa Police Department regarding false information circulating on social media about the incident that led to the shooting death of DJ Dedrick Sykes. “The name of the shooter is not being released at this time to ensure the integrity of the investigation. We can confirm the shooter in this incident was not a current on-duty, off-duty, or retired Tampa Police officer, or other local law enforcement officer.”
