TAMPA — Tampa Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide after a man was found dead Friday afternoon in downtown Tampa.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on April 10, 2026, officers responded to the 800-block of East Zack Street following a report of an unresponsive individual. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from injuries consistent with stab wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Diego Ponce-Molina. He has been charged with Murder in the First Degree With a Weapon.
According to investigators, Ponce-Molina was still at the scene when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident. Detectives determined through their investigation that Ponce-Molina approached and assaulted the victim without any apparent interaction or prior confrontation.
The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed.
Earlier in the investigation, police had stated that a person of interest was detained while officers worked to determine their involvement and the circumstances surrounding the death.
