Tampa Police initiated an operation to address street racing issues on the Gandy Bridge. The operation took place late Saturday and early Sunday morning.
Officers wrote several traffic citations and arrested two St. Petersburg men, 27 year-old Michael Lemire and 28 year-old Michael Segler for street racing. Both were charged with a misdemeanor charge of unlawful racing on a highway. Lemire also was charged with two counts of felony child neglect because two young children were in the car as he was street racing.
This crackdown on street racing was a result of the incident on May 23, 2018 that killed a mother and her 21 month-old daughter on Bayshore Blvd.
