Tampa Police Officer Involved in Traffic Crash

While responding to an emergency call for service, a Tampa Police officer swerved to avoid traffic entering his lane of travel and struck a tree.

The incident occurred near E. Martin Luther King and N. Suwanee Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m.

The officer and a reserve officer passenger were transported to the hospital with injuries as a result.  A bicyclist traveling eastbound on E. Martin Luther King was also struck as a result of the crash and has been transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As of early Thursday morning, both of the Tampa Police officers involved in a traffic crash late Wednesday  have been released from the hospital. The bicyclist involved in the crash remains in the hospital where he listed in fair condition.

Tampa Police are in contact with the driver of the second involved vehicle and the investigation as it relates to that driver is ongoing.

E. Martin Luther King Blvd from E. Central Av. to N. Florida Av was closed until approximately 4 a.m. while the investigation was underway.

Commuters in the area should seek alternate routes.
