TARPON SPRINGS – On February 17, 2025, detectives from the Threat Management Division arrested a student at Tarpon Springs Middle School for Written Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting.
The 11-year-old student was part of a group chat with two other students where they sent a photo wearing a ski mask and tactical vest, with a message stating, “he was about to go to 8th period.” Additionally, a video was shared in the chat showing the student holding what appeared to be a shotgun, with the statement, “this how we going to light them up like the Fourth of July boys” and other profanities.
Upon investigation, the student admitted to sending the video, photos, and messages but claimed it was intended as a joke. The student was arrested and charged with one count of Written Threats to Commit a Mass Shooting.
