Officers from the Tarpon Springs Police Department were dispatched to the area of US Alternate 19 (Pinellas Ave) and Wood Dove Ave at approximately 5 a.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020. The call was in reference to a bicyclist struck by a vehicle.
A witness to the crash followed the vehicle after it struck the bicyclist.
The vehicle, a light colored, newer model four door Hyundai sedan struck the female bicyclist and continued driving southbound without stopping to render aid to the victim.
The bicyclist was identified as 59 year-old Terry Bruillard who was pronounced dead on the scene by Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue.
Evidence obtained on the scene identified the vehicle and it is known to have damage to the right front headlight area (passenger side), the passenger side mirror was also broken off of the vehicle during the collision.
Traffic Homicide investigators were searching for the vehicle and driver of the vehicle to complete the investigation.
Tarpon Springs PD detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Friday, December 18, 2020, for 24 year-old Zachary L. Caride for leaving the scene of an accident involving death for the hit and run incident.
Caride was eventually located, today at approximately 5:00 p.m., in the New Port Richey area in Pasco County and was arrested with the assistance of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Caride was transported to the Pasco County Jail.
