Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol are currently investigating a fatal crash that claimed the lives of three individuals from Clearwater and a child from Texas
The incident transpired around 3:03 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Riverview (mile marker 254).
According to preliminary findings, two pickup trucks were traveling southbound in adjacent lanes on I-75, just north of SR-618.
One of the trucks initiated a lane change, colliding with the second vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to rotate. Subsequently, the pickup attempting the lane change veered into the grass median, overturning and ejecting all occupants. This led to the demise of the 36-year-old male driver, a 34-year-old female passenger, and a 12-year-old male passenger, all residents of Clearwater, Florida, who were not utilizing seatbelts. A fourth occupant, a 14-year-old male from Hillsboro, Texas, sustained critical injuries. The fourth occupant died from his injuries according to information received Thursday morning from FHP.
The second pickup truck came to a controlled stop within the emergency lane, and troopers reported that none of the three occupants in that vehicle suffered physical injuries.
