Troopers arrest man trying to return stolen Hillsborough County School bus

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) initiated a traffic stop on a stolen Hillsborough County District School Bus in the early morning hours of May 19, 2024.

The bus was stolen the previous evening on Saturday Night, May 18th and driven to Miami.

Daniel Saez, age 32, of Land O’Lakes was driving the bus and heading back towards Tampa at the intersection of Jacaranda Boulevard / Executive Drive in Sarasota.

Saez stated he was high and drunk when he initially stole it and was enroute back to Tampa to return the bus. 

Saez was placed under arrest for Grand Theft Auto and booked into the county jail.
