Tropical storm expected to bring heavy rains across South Florida and the Keys

The National Weather Service forecasts a tropical depression to form on Friday, June 3, 2022. The system is currently in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and predicted to strengthen into tropical storm Alex before landfall in the southwest part of the Florida peninsula.

Based on the current forecast, there will be a very limited impact in the immediate Tampa Bay area. The breezy conditions and rain should arrive later in the day on Friday. Rainfall may in the 1-2 inch range with sustained winds of 20 mph with gusts near 30 mph.

The majority of the rain is well east of the low pressure area and expected to be well clear of the Tampa Bay area by early on Sunday.

Mariners and beachgoers should expect hazardous conditions as the storm moves across the state.
