St. Lucie County, FL — A truck driver has been arrested following a fatal crash on Florida’s Turnpike in St. Lucie County on August 12, 2025, that left three people dead.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash involved a commercial semi-truck with a trailer and a minivan. Troopers say the truck driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, attempted to make a U-turn at an unauthorized location. The maneuver, described by investigators as reckless and without regard for safety, caused a collision that killed all three occupants of the minivan.
FHP troopers obtained a criminal arrest warrant for Singh, charging him with three counts of vehicular homicide. During the investigation, with assistance from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), authorities determined Singh had entered the United States illegally in 2018 after crossing the Mexican border. He later obtained a commercial driver’s license in California.
Under federal authority granted to FHP troopers through the 287(g) program, ICE issued an immigration detainer for Singh.
“Three people lost their lives as a result of this recklessness,” said Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Executive Director Dave Kerner. “These actions will not be tolerated on Florida’s highways.”
The case remains under investigation by FHP.
