Two dead following a vehicle crash involving an SUV and a tow truck in St. Petersburg

Investigators are on the scene of a vehicle crash that killed two adults and seriously injured a child.

The vehicle crash, involving a Honda CR-V and a tow truck, occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 5th Avenue South and 22nd Street.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the two adults in the Honda CR-V died from their injuries. One passenger, a child, was transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Based on preliminary information, the driver of the tow truck was traveling westbound in the 1900 block of 5th Avenue South. A Honda CR-V, driven by 35-year-old Shakesha Desence was making a left-hand turn onto 5th Avenue South from 20th Street South when the collision occurred.

Shakesha Desence was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital where she was pronounced dead due to her injuries. 

Dilean Desence, age 72, was a passenger in the Honda who died at the scene. His 9-year-old grandson, also a passenger, was transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical  condition. 

The next of kin have been notified. 

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
