Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol continue to investigate a fatal crash on I-4. The crash occurred at approximately 1:42 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
34 year-old Jorge Britton of Winter Haven was operating an Audi R8, eastbound on I-4 at a high speed in the outside lane approaching 50th Street.
A Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on I-4 in the inside center lane. The driver of the Audi shifted to the inside center lane as it overtook and collided with the rear of the Camry.
The impact caused the Camry to rotate and catch fire before coming to final rest along the outside shoulder of the highway.
After the impact, the Audi traveled to the inside shoulder, collided with a guardrail and was redirected back across the highway to final rest also along the outside shoulder.
There were two female passengers in the Audi at the time of the crash. One was a 35 year-old Tampa woman. The second female passenger has not been identified. Both woman and the driver remain hospitalized with serious injuries. Troopers say none of the three were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Both occupants of the Camry died as a result of the crash. The identification of the occupants of the Camry remain pending at this time.
On January 3, 2022, Jorge Britton, surrendered to FHP Troopers at the Hillsborough County Jail where he was charged with two counts each of DUI Manslaughter, DUI Serious Injury, and Vehicular Homicide.
