One dead, one injured in construction accident involving scissor lift in Clearwater

Crews from the Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a construction-related accident this afternoon at 1295 S. Missouri Ave.

The call for service came in at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, from the shopping center, where a new grocery store is being built.

The preliminary investigation shows that two workers were injured when a scissor lift collapsed; both were transported to local hospitals as trauma alerts. One man went to Morton Plant Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

The other went to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.
