Vehicle crash creates hazmat incident in Palm Harbor closing the roadway for several hours

Multiple firefighters are currently on-scene of a vehicle crash at the intersection of Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue.

The crash occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021.

The two vehicle crash sent an adult male to a local hospital with critical injures.

One of the vehicles involved is from a pool company and initial reports indicate spillage of 50 gallons of chlorine and 2 gallons of muriatic acid onto the roadway. Materials are being contained and none have entered into the local waterways.

The Pinellas County Hazerdous Materials Team will continue working in the area until the chemicals can be neutralized and removed. The intersection is expected to be closed until about 1:30 p.m.
