Woman riding electric scooter killed after colliding with side of moving truck

On Friday, March 1st, 2024 at 1:50 p.m., a black personal sit-down electric scooter, operated by 73-year-old Barbara Richards of St. Petersburg was traveling northbound on the sidewalk of 35th Street North.

According to in investigators, Richards was making a left turn onto 38th Avenue North when a white Freightliner moving truck was traveling eastbound on the curb lane of 38th Avenue North.

Richards failed to safely navigate her turn, leaving the sidewalk and colliding with the front passenger door of the moving truck. 

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

Richards was transported to Bayfront Health where she later died from her injuries on March 3rd, 2024.

The next of kin has been notified.

The investigation is still ongoing.
