Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a rollover crash in Dunedin sending one woman to the hospital.

According to investigators, the crash occurred at about 3:45 p.m. on May 14, 2016, when 28 year-old Ramon Miranda of Largo was stopped in his 2005 Ford F-250 truck in the westbound left turn lane on Solon Avenue at the County Road 1 traffic signal. A 2011 Mazada Miata being driven by 26 year-old Burgandie Ross of Palm Harbor was traveling westbound on Solon Avenue approaching the same intersection.

According to witnesses, Ross’s Mazda Miata was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Solon Avenue towards County Road 1 when it sideswiped the passenger side of Miranda’s Ford truck causing minor damage.

Investigators say that after the initial impact, Ross’s Mazda continued westbound on Solon Avenue through the intersection of County Road 1, and struck the west curb of the intersection. The Mazda continued out of control westbound through a grassy easement between two neighborhoods striking a large tree, a chain link fence, and some smaller trees. The impact caused the vehicle to rollover and come to its final rest in the upright position.

Ross was transported by helicopter to a local hospital for what was believed to be life threatening injuries. Miranda was uninjured as a result of the crash.

Investigators believe that impairment and speed may have been factors in this crash.

The investigation continues.
