18 Year-old Student Caught With 28-Inch Machete at Lakewood High School


St. Petersburg Police School Resource Officers arrested 18 year-old Daquan Maybell on the Lakewood High School campus, 1400 54th Avenue South.

According to officers, Maybell concealed a 28-inch machete inside a trombone case in the band room. It was discovered when another student opened the case to use the instrument.

Maybell claimed he brought the machete to school because he was going to do yard work immediately after school.

Weapons of any kind are not permitted on school property according to the police report.

The student was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and is being held on $5,000 bail.

The investigation continues.
