Cook Shot and Killed at Hennessey’s Bar and Grill in Oldsmar

Patrol units from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office got called to Hennessey’s Bar for a person shot at about 1:07 AM on Wednesday morning. The caller reported to 911 that a subject was shot multiple times in the bar.

Hennessey’s Bar and Grill is located at 127 Forest Lakes Boulevard in Oldsmar.

When deputies arrived, they found an employee, 33-year-old David Brown, inside the business suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding deputies located the suspect, 43-year-old Brian Mytych of Tarpon Springs, who was still inside the business. According to a press release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Mytych admitted to deputies that he shot the victim. Deputies also located a .45 caliber handgun inside the business.

Mytych was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives say that deputies were previously called to Hennessy’s on Feburary 6, 2017, after Mytych and Brown were involved in a physical altercation at the business. Mytych was issued a trespass warning from the business and he was told to leave the property but he refused. Mytych was intoxicated and he became disorderly, so deputies arrested Mytych for disorderly intoxication.

Witnesses say that Mytych returned to the bar during the early morning hours on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Employees at the business told Mytych to leave the property because of the trespass warning he was issued on February 6, 2017.

Mytych left the property and returned to the business a short time later. Witnesses say that Mytych re-entered the business and shot Brown multiple times with a handgun. Following the shooting, Mytych told the patrons in the bar to leave, and then he called 911 and reported the shooting.

Detectives interviewed Mytych at the North District Station located at 737 Louden Avenue. Mytych was subsequently arrested and transported to the
Pinellas County Jail.

Mytych was charged with one count of 1st degree murder.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
