At approximately 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, Pinellas Park Police and Pinellas Park Fire Rescue responded to the Shoot Straight Gun Range located at 4594 Ulmerton Road.

Investigators are on scene and confirm that one adult male was on the gun range when he shot himself in the head with a handgun.  He reportedly was on the range with another subject that he arrived with.

Pinellas Park reported that 19 year-old Luke Prendergast died of his injuries at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Officers learned during the investigation that Mr. Prendergast who was homeless at the time met another male subject on Treasure Island beach earlier in the day. This other subject and Mr. Prendergast spent the earlier part of the day together targeting shooting at a gun range in St. Petersburg.

Around 8:00pm on the 17th the two men arrived at Shoot Straight to do some more target shooting. As seen on the video inside the gun range at Shoot Straight Mr. Prendergast fired a couple of rounds at targets and then turned the gun on himself, while the other male subject was also shooting at targets down range.

Information was obtained from the Mr. Prendergast’s family that he had made some L suicidal statements the previous day over his current living conditions.

  1. What Richard is saying is logical. If someone wants to kill themselves they will. I think the other idiot is lying about stopping two suicide and if you aren’t give me the name and number to the place so I can verify. If someone is committed to killing themselves with a gun he is as good as dead. If you don’t get that then you are an idiot. What are you suppose to do have one CRO for every shooter standing right behind them. Come on guys use common sense!
