Teen Rushed to Trauma Center After Shooting in Pinellas Park

Update: 20 year-old Ryan Marcus Cardwell of Pinellas Park in custody. Cardwell later turned himself into Pinellas Park Police and ultimately admitted to his actions in this incident.
He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with Attempted Homicide and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.

During the investigation in the overnight hours Pinellas Park Police Detectives learned that the 17 year old victim had agreed to meet Ryan Cardwell to sell him a gun in the parking lot of 5170 Park Blvd.

When the victim got into Cardwell’s vehicle the gun sale transaction fell through at which time the victim took Cardwell’s wallet that contained a large amount of cash and returned to his own vehicle.  Cardwell exited his vehicle and approached the victim’s vehicle that also had three other juvenile subjects inside and fired a handgun twice into the vehicle.

The 17 year old male victim was struck once in the face and once in the leg.  Upon being hit the victim accelerated his vehicle through the parking lot and exited onto Park Blvd, continuing across the center median and ultimately northbound on 52nd Street where he came to a final stop in the 7700 block of 52nd Street.

The victim and two of the vehicle occupants fled on foot. The victim was located a short time later and transported to Bayfront Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Cardwell later turned himself into Pinellas Park Police and ultimately admitted to his actions in this incident.  Ryan Marcus Cardwell was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with Attempted Homicide and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.

Pinellas Park Police are currently on-scene of a shooting the occurred in the parking lot of the McDonalds at 5170 Park Blvd.

The shooting occurred at approximately 10:45 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Pinellas Park Police Department (PPPD) confirms that they are on the scene of shooting involving a 17 year old juvenile male victim.

At this time all that is known is that the juvenile victim was shot as he was sitting inside of a vehicle that was in the parking lot of 5170 Park Blvd.  The vehicle carrying the victim left this parking lot following the shooting and ended up in the parking lot of 7770 52nd Street
(approximately one block North from the shooting location) where the other occupants of the vehicle abandoned the vehicle and the victim at this location.

The victim has been transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and is in serious condition.

The investigation is just getting under way and no other information will be released until Wednesday.

Investigators say this appears to be an isolated incident involving the victim and subjects he was with.  PPPD say there is no known danger to the public.
