Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a crash that left a 2-year-old seriously injured in Unincorporated St. Petersburg.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 28th Street N and 41st Avenue.

Investigators say a 40-year-old St. Petersburg woman was traveling westbound in a Hyundai Accent on 41st Avenue North.

A 34-year-old Riverview man was traveling northbound in a Chevy Silverado on 28th Street North.

According to preliminary information, the driver of the Hyundai failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the Silverado. Both drivers sustained minor injuries in the collision, as did a 38-year-old woman from St. Petersburg who was a passenger in the Hyundai.

Additionally, a 2-year-old boy, the passenger’s son, suffered serious injuries due to being incorrectly restrained in a car seat that shifted upon impact, leading to the child being ejected from the vehicle.

The toddler was transported to the trauma center at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

The investigation continues.
