Woman shot by Pinellas Deputy during violent domestic dispute in Unincorporated Seminole

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are at 14041 95th Avenue North in Unincorporated Seminole. They responded initially to a person with a stab wound shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Upon arrival at the scene, Deputy Christopher Ryan immediately encountered 44-year-old Amy Jaeger, who was armed with a knife. Deputy Ryan shot the female suspect multiple times and subsequently located a 70-year-old man in the home with multiple stab wounds.

Both the shooting and stabbing subjects were transported to a local trauma center with severe injuries.

Based on the initial information, the couple, who lived together, has been in a relationship for about one year. The victim just informed Jaeger that he no longer wanted to be in the relationship and canceled their vacation plans. Jaeger began to attack the victim with a knife.

After he was stabbed, the victim escaped and ran to the neighbor’s home for help. Jaeger chased him and used a second knife to try to pry open the neighbor’s front door.

According to Chief Holloway from the St. Petersburg Police Department, Jaeger, armed with a knife, walked towards the Deputy with the knife raised. The Deputy ordered her to drop the knife five times as she continued to advance. The Deputy then fired eleven shots at her.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the 70-year-old victim is in stable condition, and Jaeger remains in critical condition.

See below for the body-worn camera footage of the officer-involved shooting involving the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The video has been partially blurred due to the graphic nature of the incident.

After reviewing the video and the investigative information, St. Petersburg
Chief Anthony Holloway said, “We are not seeking to file any criminal charges
against the Deputy for using deadly force. The suspect, Amy Jaeger, is
charged with attempted homicide, armed residential burglary, and aggravated
assault on a law enforcement officer.”

Background on the task force:
In 2020, the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Taskforce was created to ensure that investigations into law enforcement use of deadly force are thorough, complete, and objective. The purpose of this task force is to ensure that officer-involved shootings in Pinellas County are investigated by an independent agency and not by the agency involved in the use of deadly force.
