7th Grade Student Found With A Firearm on Campus at Hillsborough County Middle School
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s School Resource Deputies arrested a 14 year-old Webb Middle School seventh-grader on Monday, November 13, 2017 after a handgun and ammunition was discovered in his backpack on campus.
The Tampa Police Department forwarded an anonymous tip they received over the weekend that a student was selling drugs on school property and was known to carry a gun.
School administrators conducted an administrative search of the student’s property, and discovered an empty Diamondback Arms .380 semi-automatic pistol and two live bullets in his backpack. He was arrested and transported to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
He is facing a felony charge of Possession of a Firearm on School Property and a misdemeanor charge of a Minor in Possession of a Firearm.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the collaboration between Hillsborough County Public Schools and law enforcement’s commitment to keep every student safe.
The investigation continues.
