98 Year-old Driver Killed in Collision with Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputy

The crash in Pasco County that killed a 98 year-old driver early Sunday morning occurred at the intersection of US-19 and Darlington Road. The crash occurred at approximately 12:33 AM as 98 year-old William Vatalaro, Sr of Holiday was driving a 2010 Ford Escape.
According to FHP, Vatalaro was traveling westbound on Darlington Road approaching US-19. At the same time, Deputy Hans Bollenbacher driving a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, was traveling in the outside lane of northbound US-19 approaching Darlington Road.
Vatalaro failed to yield to northbound traffic and began to travel through the intersection. The patrol vehicle struck the side of the Ford. Vatalaro was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital and later expired from injuries sustained during the traffic crash.
The Deputy and his 19 year-old passenger only suffered injures being described as minor and were also evaluated at Bayonet Point Hospital.
No charges are expected in crash and FHP will continue their investigation.
