Deputy Arrests Wrong Way Driver For DUI
November 8, 2014
A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputy has arrested a suspect for DUI after the suspect was seen by the deputy driving on the wrong side of the road. The deputy herself had to swerve to avoid a crash with the vehicle.
The incident occurred during the morning hours of Saturday, November 8, 2014. It occurred on McMullen Booth Road, just north of Drew Street.
According to investigators, Deputy Kim Kilian was southbound on McMullen Booth Road approaching Drew Street when she observed a 1997 Ford vehicle eastbound on Drew Street at the traffic light. Deputies say the vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Michael Walter Brooks of Pinellas Park, then turned north onto McMullen Booth Road in the southbound lanes.
As a result of the actions of Brooks, Deputy Kilian had to swerve to avoid the vehicle as the vehicle proceeded north in the southbound lanes. Deputy Kilian did a u-turn and was able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at McMullen Booth Road and State Road 590.
Brooks had a BAC of .149. Brooks was arrested for DUI, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident
Deputies say several other southbound vehicles had to swerve out of the way to avoid a crash with the vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
The investigation continues.
