Pinellas Detectives Investigate Deputy Involved Shooting In Dunedin

Pinellas Detectives Investigate Deputy Involved Shooting In Dunedin.  It occurred at the Oak Bend Mobile Home Park located at 801 Main Street in Dunedin. Deputies responded to an initial disturbance call at approximately 10:44 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2014.  Deputies spoke with a female in the mobile home park who advised deputies everything was fine and they were able to leave. Deputies checked the area to ensure it was secure and then left the scene.

Deputies responded to a second call at the same location at approximately 12:16 a.m. in reference to an armed subject who was attempting to harm himself. When deputies arrived, a male subject was inside the residence of lot #32 armed with a knife. One deputy entered the residence and the suspect began to come towards the deputy, armed with the knife. The deputy began to retreat backwards attempting to exit the residence, commanding the suspect to drop his weapon. A second deputy outside of the residence, witnessed the suspect coming towards the deputy with a weapon and both deputies again commanded the suspect to drop the weapon.

The subject did not follow verbal commands and continued to advance toward deputies. Deputies, feeling threatened, then drew their guns and shot the subject.

The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 34-year-old Michael Case who lived at that address.

Deputies Jose Berrios-Collazo and Peter Eigo were not  injured during the incident. Both will be placed on routine paid administrative leave.

The investigation continues.
