Teen Dies And Driver Seriously Injured In Tampa Crash

This evening, a traffic crashed claimed the life of a 19 year-old Land O Lakes teen in Tampa. She was a passenger in a 2006 Nissan that was traveling northbound on Dale Mabry Highway at Lakeview Drive at about 7:51 PM Thursday evening.
David Dario Cruz, age 20 of Tampa, was traveling southbound in a 2003 Mazda on Dale Mabry Hwy in the left turn lane at Lakeview Drive. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Cruz turned left into the path of the NIssan resulting in a collision.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with injures FHP is calling critical. The female passenger suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene. Cruz suffered only minor injures and was not transported to the hospital.
FHP does not believe that alcohol contributed to this crash and all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time.
The crash remains under investigation. Names of the deceased and critically injured will be released upon next of kin notification.
